Join us for our first annual Chili Festival. All things pepper-related are celebrated at this unique event: sample chili-infused dishes, try some spicy beer & pepper ice cream, or attend one of our international chili cooking demonstrations.

Join us for a tour of our chili peppers. Participants will also view our simple chili garden located near the Spanish Courtyard. This tour is a walking tour and is free. Tours take place at 11:30 am and 2 pm and last approximately 30-40 minutes.

Learn how to make green chutney, a sauce with serrano peppers and palak paneer a thick paste made with pureed spinach, garlic, garam masala, spices and paprika pepper. Participants will receive a menu card and samples to taste.

2:00 PM  |  45 minutes class  |  $10 per person

Learn how to make three different kinds of salsa: salsa verde, chili morita and molcajete and learn how they are traditionally used. Participants will receive menu card and samples to taste.

MEXICAN SALSA COOKING DEMONSTRATION

3:30 PM  |  75 minutes class  |  $25 per person

Bibimbap is a traditional dish served as a bowl of warm rice topped with sautéed and seasoned or fresh vegetables, an egg, and meat and a chili pepper paste. Learn a simple way to make this healthy meal, topped with chili pepper sauce. Participants will receive a menu card and a sample to taste.

KOREAN CHILI COOKING CLASS

The Kid's Area will feature various chili-themed crafts, face painting, story telling, a scavenger hunt game and count the number of chili peppers in the jar contest and more!

 

Join Library Laura for storytelling, singing and dancing around the theme "red hot". Sessions at 1 PM and 2 PM. Free (recommended for kids 0-10 years old)

 

The Kid's Area is located near the cafe at the Organic Galleries.

KID'S AREA

Learn how to make a ristra out of bay leaves and chili peppers. This is a free demonstration, participants will not take their own ristra home.

How to Grow Peppers

The Health Benefits of Peppers

Peppers are all members of the capsicum genus and include both bell peppers and chilies.  We will explore some of the potential health benefits of various peppers including helping with digestive issues, pain relief, heart health, preventing cancer, preventing colds and flu. Seating is limited and pre-registration is highly encouraged. For participants who register, please arrive 10 minutes before the start of the workshop to ensure seating. Fire Cider Workshop

Fire cider is a spicy vinegar that herbalists have used as a favorite wintertime remedy and to ward off illness for decades. Guests will make a pint size jar which will be good for use for up to a year if stored in the refrigerator. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required. Refunds will only be given 48 hours before the start of the workshop.

Cayenne Salve Workshop
