123 Farm is a certified organic farm that is known for its lavender fields. We also grow peppers, oranges, various herbs and flowers, dabble a little bit in beekeeping and have over 750 olive trees on-site, some trees being over a century old (we press our own olive oil in the fall!).

Activities

Join us for cooking classes and workshops using chili peppers. Activities are not included with admission. Please purchase your spot online or in person at the Front Desk.

Tractor Wagon Tour

Guided tours on an antique tractor meander past our pepper fields as far as the thousand-year-old oak tree and back. Tours last approximately 15 minutes during which your guide will present information about the history of Highland Springs Ranch & Inn and current preservation efforts. Tickets are $7 per person for adults, $5 per person for seniors/students, $3 for children aged 4-12 and free for children under 3.

Mexican Hot Salsa Cooking Class

Learn how to make three different kinds of salsa: salsa verde, chile morita and molcajete and learn how they are traditionally used. Participants will receive menu cards and take their own small jar of salsa home. Limited to 10 participants per class.

Korean Bibimbap Cooking Demo

Bibimbap is a traditional dish served as a bowl of warm rice topped with sautéed or fresh vegetables, an egg, and meat and a chili pepper paste. Learn a simple way to make this healthy meal. This demonstration is free and will take place outdoors in front of the distiller (behind the music stage). There will be limited seating. Saturday & Sunday at 3 pm.

Indian Chutney Cooking Class

Learn how to make green chutney, a sauce with serrano peppers and palak paneer (a thick paste made with pureed spinach), garlic, garam masala, spices and paprika pepper. Participants will receive a menu card and their own small jar of chutney to take home. Limited to 10 participants per class.

Hot Sauce Making Class

Learn the health benefits of chilies and how simple it is to make your own hot sauce with all natural ingredients. Participants will receive a menu card and their own small bottle of hot sauce to take home. Limited to 10 participants per class.

Cayenne Salve Making Class

Learn how to make a cayenne salve that can be used for sore muscles and joints, bruises and arthritic and nerve pain. Each participant will make a 4 ounce tin. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required.

Fire Cider Class

Fire cider is a spicy vinegar that herbalists have used as a favorite wintertime remedy and to ward off illness for decades. Guests will make a pint size jar which will be good for use for up to a year if stored in the refrigerator. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required.

Pepper Pickling & Harvest

The instructor will lead the group of participants to harvest from fresh peppers to be used in the pickling class. Participants will receive a menu card and their own small bottle of pickled peppers to take home. Limited to 10 participants per class.

Pepper Gallery

Touch and smell different types of chili peppers at the Pepper Gallery. Read information on the spiciness level of various types of chili peppers and learn about culinary uses. Free.

Historical Gallery

Learn about the history of Highland Springs Ranch & Inn. View restored photos from our historical archives, from the early days as a stagecoach stop later transitioning to a pioneering health resort in the 1930's. View a photo of Albert Einstein with the original owners of the property. Free.

Story Telling & Craft

Join Library Laura for storytelling, singing and dancing around the theme "red hot" and making a simple craft together. Sessions at 1pm and 2 pm (Saturday & Sunday) and 2 pm (Friday). Free (recommended for kids 0-10 years old)

Taste all things spicy at the Chili Pepper Marketplace. From infused ghost pepper honeys and spicy ketchup to hot sauces and hot salves the marketplace is the place to sample chili in various ways.

Member Discounts

Members get up to 20% off goods purchased at the Chili Pepper Marketplace. They also get free admission to the festival and additional perks. Membership starts at $30 per year.
